The European Union’s construction sector displayed conflicting trends in June 2025, recording a modest decrease compared to the previous month while still maintaining solid growth on an annual basis, according to the latest figures from Eurostat.

Monthly and Annual Performance

Seasonally adjusted production in the construction sector decreased by 0.5% in the EU and by 0.8% in the euro area in June compared with May 2025. This follows a similar decline recorded in May, indicating a short-term slowdown in activity.

However, when compared with June 2024, the sector shows resilience. Production in construction increased by 1.9% in the EU and by 1.7% in the euro area, suggesting a healthier long-term trend despite the recent monthly dips.

Divergent Trends Among Member States

Performance varied significantly across the bloc, highlighting different economic conditions at the national level.

On an annual basis, some countries saw remarkable expansion. Spain led with a massive 31.4% increase in construction output, followed by Czechia (+14.0%) and Slovakia (+9.8%). In contrast, several major economies experienced contractions, including France (-5.1%), Austria (-5.0%), and Germany (-2.5%).

The monthly figures also showed a wide range of outcomes. The largest decreases were recorded in Spain (-5.6%), Hungary (-5.3%), and Slovenia (-3.7%). The highest monthly increases were observed in Slovakia (+5.3%), Romania (+4.5%), and Poland (+3.2%).
