Cyprus Achieves Record-Breaking Tourist Arrivals in 2024

Tourist arrivals in Cyprus soared to an unprecedented 4,040,200 in 2024, marking a historic milestone for the island. This represents a 5.1% increase from the 3,845,652 arrivals recorded in 2023 and surpasses the previous record of 3,976,777 set in 2019, according to the Statistical Service.

December 2024 Sets New Monthly Record
December 2024 alone saw a record 133,063 tourist arrivals, reflecting a 7.6% increase compared to the 123,630 visitors during December 2023.

The United Kingdom emerged as the leading source of tourism for December 2024, accounting for 23.7% (31,501 arrivals) of total visitors. Other significant contributors were Israel at 17.4% (23,168 arrivals), Poland with 9.4% (12,473 arrivals), Greece at 9.0% (11,969 arrivals), and Germany at 5.7% (7,535 arrivals).

Travel Purposes
For December 2024, 49.6% of tourists cited holidays as their primary reason for visiting Cyprus. Visits to friends or relatives accounted for 37.5%, while 12.7% traveled for business purposes. By comparison, in December 2023, 58.4% visited for holidays, 30.4% for family or friends, and 11.0% for business.

Increased Travel by Cypriot Residents
In December 2024, 168,022 Cypriot residents returned from trips abroad, a 9.3% increase compared to the 153,736 returns recorded in December 2023.

Greece was the most popular destination for Cypriot residents, accounting for 31.2% (52,344 returns) of all trips, followed by the United Kingdom at 13.7% (22,995 returns) and Poland at 5.3% (8,956 returns).

Most Cypriots traveled for holidays (65.7%), while 17.6% traveled for studies, 16.3% for business, and 0.4% for other reasons.
