Cyprus’s aviation sector achieved an unprecedented milestone, with the country’s airports registering 13 million passengers (arrivals and departures) since the start of 2025. This record-breaking figure, announced by airport operator Hermes Airports on Monday, confirms the significant expansion and successful connectivity strategy of the island nation.

Connectivity Strategy Pays Off

The achievement is seen by Hermes Airports as more than a statistical victory; it is the culmination of sustained effort and close partnership among the State, the tourism industry, and the airport operator.

  • Expanded Network: The 13 million travelers reflect a network of 160 routes operated by 60 airlines that currently link Cyprus to 41 countries.

  • Strategic Validation: The company stated that this result validates its long-term strategy aimed at enhancing the nation’s air links and securing its position as a major Mediterranean hub.

This robust growth is particularly significant as tourism revenue is concurrently surging, with data showing revenue climbing 10.1% in September 2025 and a 15.4% increase for the January-to-September period compared to 2024.

Future Ambitions: Year-Round Access

The milestone serves as encouragement for Hermes Airports to pursue even more ambitious goals to ensure the sector’s long-term sustainability:

  • Year-Round Service: A key objective is to secure year-round air connectivity, reducing the island’s reliance on seasonal traffic peaks.

  • New Direct Routes: Efforts are being redoubled to establish direct flights with key international cities that are not currently served.

Hermes Airports extended its gratitude to all stakeholders and airlines contributing to the island’s air connectivity, acknowledging their role in reaching this record throughput.
