The employment market in Cyprus showed solid growth in the second quarter of 2025, with both the total number of people employed and the total hours worked increasing compared to the same period last year. The technology, trade, and hospitality sectors were the primary drivers of this expansion, according to data released Friday by the Statistical Service.
The Key Figures
Total employment in Cyprus rose by 1.8% year-on-year to reach 508,291 persons during the second quarter. This figure was composed of 455,484 employees and 52,807 self-employed individuals.
In a sign of increasing economic activity, the total actual hours worked during the quarter saw a slightly larger increase of 2.2%, amounting to 236.2 million hours.
Sectors Fueling the Growth
The report identified three key sectors that recorded the highest growth rates for both the number of jobs and the hours worked, indicating they were the main engines of the positive trend:
- Information and Communications Technology (ICT)
- Wholesale and Retail Trade, including the repair of motor vehicles
- Accommodation and Food Service Activities
