Cyprus Tourist Arrivals Rise 8.5% in August, Topping 3 Million for the Year

Tourist arrivals in Cyprus rose by 8.5% in August compared to the same month last year, with the total number of visitors for the year now surpassing the three million mark. According to the Statistical Service, the tourism sector has seen a sustained 10% increase for the first eight months of 2025.

Key Markets Driving August’s Growth

The data shows that 602,026 tourists arrived in Cyprus in August, up from 554,923 in August 2024. The total arrivals for the year reached 3,034,155.

The United Kingdom remained the primary source of tourism, accounting for nearly a third (32.1%) of all visitors in August. Israel was the second-largest market with a significant 17.5% share, followed by Poland at 7.0%. The vast majority of visitors (86.5%) traveled to Cyprus for holidays.

Surge in Outbound Travel by Residents

The data also revealed a sharp 23.9% increase in the number of Cyprus residents returning from trips abroad in August. A total of 238,740 residents traveled overseas during the peak holiday month.

Greece was by far the most popular destination, accounting for 33.1% of all return trips by residents. The United Kingdom, Russia, and Italy were other popular choices. As with incoming tourists, the primary reason for travel was holidays, cited by 91.6% of residents.
