Government Allocates €128 Million for Health Sector Improvements

The government has unveiled plans for projects valued at €128 million to upgrade public health services and hospital infrastructure across all districts by 2027. Government Spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis made the announcement on Friday at the Presidential Palace following a meeting chaired by President Nikos Christodoulides.

During the meeting, which included the State Health Services Organisation (SHSO) and Health Minister Michael Damianos, discussions centered on the development strategy for public healthcare. Letymbiotis emphasized that enhancing healthcare services and modernizing hospital infrastructure are central to the government’s policy priorities. He noted that the timely and efficient completion of these projects is both a priority and an obligation for the state.

Key Investments and Funding Sources
Between 2023 and 2027, the government will implement projects worth €128.6 million. Of this amount, €96.6 million will be state-funded, while €32 million will come from the Recovery and Resilience Plan (RSP).

Key initiatives include:

  • Modernization of Accident and Emergency Departments (A&E): Upgraded facilities in all districts are scheduled for completion by June 2026 to deliver improved healthcare services.
  • Infrastructure Enhancements: Renovations of patient rooms, energy-efficient upgrades to buildings, and installation of photovoltaic systems.
  • Expanded Facilities: Creation of day care units, along with the refurbishment of reception and catering areas for patients and visitors.
  • Commitment to Timely Execution
    Letymbiotis highlighted that the health sector’s development plan aligns with the government’s broader program, stressing the need to accelerate progress on major projects. The President has called for strict adherence to timelines and ongoing updates on the work’s status to ensure timely delivery.

    The projects reflect the government’s commitment to delivering higher-quality healthcare services and positioning the health sector as a fundamental pillar of national policy.
