During a high-level meeting held on June 23 with President Nikos Christodoulides, the Cyprus Real Estate Developers Association emphasized the critical importance of the property development and construction industry to Cyprus’ broader economic and social development.

Also present at the meeting were Interior Minister Constantinos Ioannou, Deputy Minister of Migration Nicholas Ioannides, Deputy Minister to the President Irene Piki, Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis, and the head of the Presidential Press Office, Victoras Papadopoulos.

Representatives of the association included Chairperson Yiannis Misirlis, Deputy Chairperson Demetris Assiotis, Vice President Antonis Kakoullis, Secretary General Savvas Georgiades, Board Member Panikkos Livadiotis, Honorary President Michalis Hadjipanayiotou, and Executive Secretary Antonis Fragoudis.

Describing the meeting as constructive and forward-looking, the association stated that the discussions focused on several challenges and policy priorities affecting the real estate sector. The shared goal was to improve the competitiveness and resilience of the industry, ensuring its continued contribution to national economic growth.

A major point of discussion was the streamlining of the building permit process. The developers commended the Interior Ministry’s initiatives to reduce bureaucratic delays and highlighted the need for the newly established local government bodies to function efficiently to support timely project approvals.

Housing affordability was another pressing issue addressed during the meeting. Misirlis pointed out that the lack of accessible housing remains one of the most urgent challenges facing the property market. He noted that the association has submitted new proposals to support public housing strategies and expand affordable options.

At the end of the meeting, Misirlis expressed appreciation for the government’s openness to dialogue and reiterated the association’s ongoing commitment to shaping a modern, efficient, and sustainable real estate sector – one that continues to serve as a vital engine of the Cypriot economy.
