The municipality of Limassol is preparing to embark on a new infrastructure project in the Neapolis area, following recent approval from the Cyprus Environment Ministry. The project involves constructing a new jetty and upgrading the surrounding area, signaling a significant enhancement to this part of the city.

According to an official press release, Limassol’s municipality will revamp the existing boat launch at Akti Olympion beach, construct a new jetty beside it, and deepen the seabed across a 34×34 meter section.

The planned jetty will stretch 15 meters in length and 2 meters in width, positioned west of the current one. Its structure will feature metal piles anchored into the seabed, with a timber floor elevated 0.8 meters above mean sea level. For safety, the jetty will have a 1.10-meter-high railing along its perimeter, with chain openings at intervals to allow boat access. Additionally, the jetty will be fitted with solar-powered lanterns to ensure proper lighting.

The project’s Environmental Impact Assessment, submitted by Limassol Municipality in April 2021, estimates the total cost to be around €300,000. It’s important to note that the Cyprus Ports Authority is the licensing body for this area, which is also a well-developed tourist hub.

From an urban planning perspective, the site lies within the Da2 protection zone, dedicated to green spaces, parks, sports fields, and other protected areas.
