Employees in Cyprus saw their bank balances grow as 2025 drew to a close. According to the latest provisional data released by the Statistical Service of Cyprus (Cystat) and reported by Stockwatch, gross monthly earnings reached an average of €2,452 in the third quarter of 2025—a solid 4.3% increase from the same period the previous year.
Even after adjusting for seasonal fluctuations, the momentum remained positive, with a 0.7% uptick in earnings compared to the second quarter of 2025.
The Gender Breakdown: Who is Earning What?
While both men and women saw their pay rise, the data reveals distinct differences in both the rate of increase and the average total.
-
Male Employees: Average gross earnings rose to €2,622, marking a 3.8% year-on-year increase.
-
Female Employees: While the total average was lower at €2,238, women saw a faster growth rate of 4.9% compared to Q3 2024.
Wealth Distribution and the “Income Gap”
The report highlights a significant disparity in how wealth is distributed across the workforce, particularly when looking at income brackets and citizenship.
Gender Distribution by Bracket
The “middle class” of earners—those taking home between €1,500 and €2,999—is the most common bracket for men (41.3%). Conversely, the largest share of women (40.5%) is still concentrated in the lower bracket, earning less than €1,500 per month.
The Citizenship Factor
There is a stark contrast in earnings based on nationality. Cypriot nationals are largely found in the middle-income tier, whereas nearly half of the non-Cypriot workforce earns at the lower end of the scale.
| Category | Largest Earnings Bracket | Percentage |
| Cypriot Employees | €1,500 – €2,999 | 43.9% |
| Non-Cypriot Employees | Under €1,500 | 49.1% |
The “High-Earning” Elite: Interestingly, non-Cypriots are more than twice as likely to be found in the highest pay bracket (≥ €6,000), representing 7.6% of their group, compared to only 3.8% of Cypriots. This is often attributed to the high concentration of foreign specialists in the island’s booming IT and financial sectors.
Sector Spotlight
The growth in earnings aligns with Cyprus’ broader economic resilience. Sectors such as Information and Communication and Financial Activities continue to drive these averages upward, often skewing the mean salary higher than the median reality for many workers.
