Cyprus’ Ministry of Transport has confirmed a significant rise in air traffic this week, largely driven by emergency repatriation operations and increased regional demand. Despite these challenges, the Ministry emphasized that flight operations continue at high levels of efficiency and aviation safety.

In an official statement released Thursday, the Ministry revealed that Cyprus is currently accommodating around 500 additional flights per day. This spike is attributed to the country’s role in facilitating evacuations of foreign nationals from neighboring regions affected by ongoing instability.

The Ministry noted that this surge coincides with Cyprus’ peak summer travel season, further intensifying passenger volume at both Larnaca and Paphos airports. Nevertheless, authorities assured that all operations are proceeding in close coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, particularly regarding the repatriation of foreign citizens.

To ensure safety amidst heightened activity, enhanced security measures have been implemented across the country’s airports. In addition, the Ministry praised the efforts of the nation’s air traffic controllers, who continue to maintain service standards under considerable pressure within Cyprus’ Flight Information Region (FIR).

The ESTIA national emergency response plan remains active, allowing Cyprus to serve as a key evacuation hub in the region. Officials emphasized that the island’s role during this critical time reflects its strategic importance and ongoing commitment to regional stability and humanitarian coordination.
