Cyprus recorded a substantial increase in tourism revenue during the first quarter of 2025, highlighting a robust start to the year for one of the country’s key economic sectors. According to data released by the Cyprus Statistical Service, tourism revenue between January and March reached €278.3 million, up from €223.3 million during the same period in 2024. This represents a year-on-year growth of 24.6 percent.

In March alone, revenue from tourism was estimated at €129.4 million, a 14.5 percent increase compared to the €113 million recorded in March 2024. The figures are based on the results of the Passenger Survey conducted by the Statistical Service.

Higher Spending Per Tourist

Average individual expenditure also rose significantly. In March 2025, the average spend per tourist was €644.65, an increase of 15.3 percent from the €558.88 recorded in the same month of the previous year.

When broken down by key source markets, visitors from the United Kingdom—who made up 30.7 percent of total arrivals in March—spent an average of €78.87 per day. Tourists from Israel, accounting for 14.1 percent of arrivals, had a significantly higher daily spend at €194.69. Polish tourists, comprising 9.9 percent of arrivals, spent €76.07 per day on average.

Implications for the Broader Economy

This growth in both tourist volume and spending underscores the continued resilience and appeal of Cyprus as a travel destination. It also points to potential positive spillover effects for the real estate, hospitality, and retail sectors. Increased visitor spending can bolster demand for short-term rentals, commercial spaces, and tourism-linked investments, especially in high-traffic regions such as Paphos, Larnaca, and Limassol.

As Cyprus continues to position itself as a competitive destination in the Mediterranean, the upward trend in tourism revenue may serve as a key driver of wider economic activity throughout 2025.
