Larnaka International Airport has been recognized as one of Europe’s top-performing airports, earning second place in its passenger category at the 35th Annual Congress and General Assembly of Airports Council International Europe (ACI Europe), held in Athens on June 19.
Hermes Airports, the operator of both Larnaka and Pafos airports, announced that Larnaka received the “Highly Commended” distinction in the “Best Airports in Europe” category for facilities handling between 5 to 10 million passengers annually. The top spot in this category went to Sofia’s Vasil Levski Airport.
This recognition marks a new milestone for Larnaka Airport, reinforcing its standing among Europe’s most efficiently managed and strategically forward-looking transport hubs. Hermes Airports highlighted that the award acknowledges the airport’s comprehensive growth strategy, which places equal emphasis on sustainability, community engagement, operational efficiency, and enhanced passenger experience.
In a statement, Hermes Airports CEO Eleni Kaloyirou attributed the award to the collaborative effort of the company’s team and reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining momentum. “This recognition from ACI Europe is a reflection of our ongoing efforts to continuously enhance services and drive meaningful progress in Cyprus’ aviation sector,” she said.
The achievement aligns with broader advancements in Cyprus’ air connectivity. According to ACI Europe’s latest Air Connectivity Report for 2025, both Larnaka and Pafos airports lead all European airports in growth of direct air connectivity, with an 18% year-on-year increase in flights and destinations.
Cyprus also ranks prominently at the country level, placing second in Europe for growth in direct air connectivity (up 22% from 2019) and third in total connectivity growth (including indirect flights), with an 8% rise over the same period.
Hermes Airports emphasized that these developments support Cyprus’ tourism objectives and help address seasonal fluctuations in travel demand, ensuring a more resilient and accessible travel network year-round.
