Cyprus witnessed a significant boost in tourism during the first seven months of 2024, with tourist arrivals reaching a remarkable 2,203,704, according to data from the Cyprus Statistical Service (CySTAT). This marks a 3.1% increase compared to the same period in 2023 when 2,137,408 tourists visited the island.
Record-Breaking July
July 2024 saw an exceptional performance, with 551,229 tourists arriving in Cyprus, the highest number ever recorded for the month. This represents a 5.3% increase from July 2023, which had 523,718 arrivals. Notably, this figure also surpasses the pre-pandemic record of July 2019 by a slight margin of 0.05%, when 550,971 tourists visited the country.
Key Markets
The United Kingdom remained the leading source of tourists, accounting for 33.9% (186,751) of total arrivals in July 2024. Following the UK, Israel contributed 12.9% (71,238), Poland 6.4% (35,456), Sweden 4.3% (23,511), and Germany 3.8% (20,726). Compared to July 2023, arrivals from the UK increased by 6.15%, while those from Israel saw a significant rise of 10%.
Decline in Cypriot Residents’ Trips Abroad
On the other hand, Cypriot residents’ travel abroad experienced a decline. In July 2024, there were 171,382 outbound trips, a 7.0% decrease from the 184,335 trips made in July 2023. The most popular destinations for Cypriot travelers were Greece (40.1% or 68,805 trips), the United Kingdom (11.1% or 18,987 trips), and Italy (4.8% or 8,191 trips), according to CySTAT.
