At the recent Property Show Pafos ’25, George Mais, President of the Paphos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Evep), emphasized that while Paphos has seen positive development in recent years, there’s still massive untapped potential. What’s needed now? Strategic state support and a stronger focus on public infrastructure to match the private investment already flowing into the region.

Why This Matters for Buyers and Investors

Mais explained that Paphos is already attracting noteworthy projects in land development, tourism, education, and healthcare – all indicators of a growing, vibrant economy. For real estate investors and future homeowners, this translates into rising property values, better amenities, and a high quality of life.

But to truly position Paphos as a top destination to live, invest, and visit, the city needs modern infrastructure and smart urban planning. Evep’s proposal includes game-changing developments like a new marina that would elevate the tourism offering and draw high-net-worth individuals who want to live and invest locally.

A Vision for a More Connected, Livable Paphos

There are already encouraging steps being taken. The government has reportedly reached an agreement with Hermes Airports to expand the terminal and add a VIP lounge. Plans for improving road access, public transportation, and service quality are also in the works.

Mais also highlighted the importance of fixing bureaucratic delays that stall development and frustrate investors. In fact, the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry, along with all district chambers, is arranging a meeting with the Interior Minister to tackle these issues directly.

A Strong Future – But It Needs Collective Action

The Chamber believes Paphos can support a variety of tourism and lifestyle experiences – from leisure and cultural tourism to agritourism and sports. With such a wide appeal, it’s no wonder the city is gaining momentum among international buyers.

Still, Mais stressed that achieving long-term growth depends on coordinated efforts between local stakeholders and the state. “The private sector has stepped up,” he said. “Now it’s time for public infrastructure to catch up.”

For anyone considering investing in Cyprus, especially in a place with both beauty and potential, Paphos is absolutely worth your attention. Just know – it’s not only about what Paphos is today, but what it could be tomorrow.
