Speaking during a stakeholder meeting in Voroklini as part of his nationwide tour, the President emphasized the government\u2019s dedication to aligning policies with the real needs of local communities.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Key Infrastructure and Transportation Developments<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Among the most significant announcements was the resolution of long-standing issues at Larnaca Port, with an agreement set to be signed in April with The Hellenic Republic Asset Development Fund S.A. (HRADF). Simultaneously, maintenance and dredging work at Larnaca Marina has been approved, with tenders already published.<\/p>\n<p>Larnaca International Airport will also see major upgrades following a newly negotiated agreement worth \u20ac300 million, significantly improving travel experiences for residents and visitors.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, the President highlighted crucial road network expansions and the enhancement of public transport to ease urban congestion and boost connectivity.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Advancing Education and Research<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>A major educational investment includes the establishment of a School of Marine Sciences, Technology, and Sustainable Development under the Cyprus University of Technology. The project, estimated at \u20ac16.4 million, will be carried out in collaboration with the Municipality of Larnaca and is expected to welcome its first students in September 2027.<\/p>\n<p>Further reinforcing Larnaca\u2019s educational landscape, plans are in place for hosting foreign university branches and building a new Technical and Vocational School for Green Professions to replace St. Lazarus Technical School. This project, with a budget exceeding \u20ac30 million, is set for completion by 2028. The final location, either Alambra or Kornos, will be confirmed by the Cabinet shortly.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Economic Growth and Entrepreneurial Support<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Larnaca\u2019s business environment is set to benefit from the Entrepreneurship and Research Innovation Center in Aradippou, designed to provide affordable workspaces and support for young entrepreneurs. Meanwhile, \u20ac60 million will be allocated to the Strategic Plan for the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) 2023-2027, fostering agricultural innovation and supporting young farmers and livestock breeders.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Sustainability and Environmental Initiatives<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The government is prioritizing environmental sustainability, including the gradual upgrading of the Koshi Integrated Waste Management Facility and the restoration of the former Larnaca refinery site. Addressing water supply challenges caused by climate change remains a key focus, with new investments planned to mitigate the impact of droughts.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Healthcare Improvements<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The New General Hospital of Larnaca will undergo significant infrastructure upgrades worth \u20ac16.4 million, alongside improvements in emergency services such as the First Aid Departments and the introduction of a Rapid Response Clinic.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Cultural and Heritage Preservation<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Efforts to showcase Larnaca\u2019s rich heritage include renovations of the Larnaca Castle, Choirokoitia archaeological site, and the Medieval Chapel in Pyrga, with a total budget of \u20ac600,000. Additionally, as Cyprus prepares for its EU Council Presidency in 2026, the museum space within Larnaca\u2019s Medieval Castle will be upgraded to host conferences and official events.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Strengthening Local Governance and Municipal Support<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Responding to a request from the Union of Cyprus Municipalities, the government will increase financial allocations for the maintenance of primary roads, which were previously under the Public Works Department. A subsidy of \u20ac3 million will be expanded to ensure smooth municipal operations.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>A Vision for Larnaca\u2019s Future<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Summing up the government\u2019s vision for the district, Larnaca Mayor Andreas Vyras expressed confidence that these strategic investments will enhance quality of life, strengthen the local economy, and transform Larnaca into a modern, sustainable city.
