The surplus mirrors the same period in 2024, when it stood at \u20ac550.7 million, also representing 1.6% of GDP.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"490\" data-end=\"686\"><strong data-start=\"490\" data-end=\"513\">Revenue Performance<\/strong><br data-start=\"513\" data-end=\"516\" \/>Total government revenue for the first half of 2025 reached \u20ac7.12 billion, an increase of \u20ac393.6 million or 5.9% compared with \u20ac6.72 billion in the same period of 2024.<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"688\" data-end=\"1181\">\n<li data-start=\"688\" data-end=\"766\">\n<p data-start=\"690\" data-end=\"766\">Income and wealth taxes rose by \u20ac171.3 million (12%) to \u20ac1.59 billion.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"767\" data-end=\"846\">\n<p data-start=\"769\" data-end=\"846\">Social contributions climbed by \u20ac208.3 million (9.7%) to \u20ac2.36 billion.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"847\" data-end=\"934\">\n<p data-start=\"849\" data-end=\"934\">Property income more than doubled, increasing by \u20ac54 million to \u20ac103.1 million.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"935\" data-end=\"1085\">\n<p data-start=\"937\" data-end=\"1085\">Taxes on production and imports grew by \u20ac121.4 million (5.4%) to \u20ac2.38 billion, with net VAT revenue up \u20ac73.2 million (4.8%) to \u20ac1.59 billion.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1086\" data-end=\"1181\">\n<p data-start=\"1088\" data-end=\"1181\">Revenue from goods and services rose slightly by \u20ac3.8 million (0.8%) to \u20ac480.9 million.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1183\" data-end=\"1349\">Conversely, current transfers dropped by \u20ac121.1 million (-40.2%) to \u20ac180.2 million, while capital transfers fell by \u20ac44.1 million (-63.3%) to \u20ac25.6 million.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1351\" data-end=\"1535\"><strong data-start=\"1351\" data-end=\"1373\">Expenditure Trends<\/strong><br data-start=\"1373\" data-end=\"1376\" \/>Government spending in January\u2013June 2025 totalled \u20ac6.56 billion, an increase of \u20ac386.7 million (6.3%) compared with \u20ac6.17 billion in the same period of 2024.<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1537\" data-end=\"2090\">\n<li data-start=\"1537\" data-end=\"1618\">\n<p data-start=\"1539\" data-end=\"1618\">Compensation of employees rose by \u20ac110.8 million (6.1%) to \u20ac1.92 billion.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1619\" data-end=\"1695\">\n<p data-start=\"1621\" data-end=\"1695\">Social benefits increased by \u20ac178.2 million (6.9%) to \u20ac2.75 billion.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1696\" data-end=\"1775\">\n<p data-start=\"1698\" data-end=\"1775\">Intermediate consumption was up \u20ac36.5 million (5.8%) to \u20ac664.7 million.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1776\" data-end=\"1846\">\n<p data-start=\"1778\" data-end=\"1846\">Interest payments rose \u20ac22.3 million (9.8%) to \u20ac250.9 million.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1847\" data-end=\"2090\">\n<p data-start=\"1849\" data-end=\"2090\">Capital expenditure jumped by \u20ac91.1 million (21.7%) to \u20ac510.2 million, driven by a \u20ac58.2 million (16.1%) rise in gross capital formation to \u20ac419.5 million and a \u20ac32.9 million (56.9%) increase in other capital spending to \u20ac90.7 million.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"2092\" data-end=\"2253\">On the other hand, current transfers fell by \u20ac47.6 million (-10.8%) to \u20ac392.8 million, and subsidies declined by \u20ac4.6 million (-6.1%) to \u20ac70.8 million.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2255\" data-end=\"2447\">Cystat noted that for certain General Government entities, particularly within the Local Government subsector, estimates were used due to incomplete data submissions by relevant authorities.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2449\" data-end=\"2505\"><em data-start=\"2449\" data-end=\"2503\">Source: Stockwatch<\/em><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The General Government of Cyprus recorded a surplus of \u20ac557.6 million, equal to 1.6% of GDP, in the period from January to June 2025, according to preliminary fiscal results released by the Statistical Service of Cyprus (Cystat).
