President Nikos Christodoulides has urged an intensified push to meet his administration’s 88 primary goals for 2024, according to Deputy Minister to the President Irene Piki. During a Cabinet meeting, Piki announced that 51 of these initiatives are either completed or set to conclude in the coming weeks, with 38 finished and another 13 nearing the final stages. However, 37 projects still trail behind the originally projected timelines.
Following the meeting at the Presidential Palace, Piki emphasized the President’s commitment to keeping the government’s projects on schedule, encouraging ministers to increase their efforts to meet deadlines. “The President has requested Cabinet members to intensify efforts to maintain alignment with our annual schedule,” she stated.
This meeting coincided with the parliamentary presentation of the 2025 annual budget, which details financial planning for each Ministry. Each Ministry will soon be unveiling its own 2025 Action Plan as well, highlighting the administration’s focus on transparency and accountability through regular updates, a system introduced by President Christodoulides.
Addressing the delays, Piki explained that each Ministry had developed specific timelines for the flagship projects in January. However, some setbacks have occurred due to legislative processes still under review or awaiting parliamentary approval, as well as grant programs needing further consultation. In certain cases, minor setbacks affected the announcements of certain programs.
Piki stressed that despite some delays, the administration remains dedicated to completing each project within a reasonable timeframe. She also pointed to diakivernisi.gov.cy, where all updates on the government’s projects are accessible to the public.
The President will deliver a detailed summary at year’s end, outlining achievements and any adjustments made along the way. Completed projects cover a range of areas including Cyprus’ MED9 presidency, reforms in local governance, new asylum protocols, and advancements in both education and energy sectors. Other significant initiatives, such as enhancements in health infrastructure, public service improvements, and energy storage, are still in progress.
