The Cypriot government has launched a new public procurement portal, as announced by the treasury on Friday. The platform offers streamlined public access to details about government contracts, including the assignment processes, recipients, and key specifics of each contract.
The treasury emphasized that this website is intended as a primary resource for all stakeholders in public procurement. It also acts as the main entry point for various reforms and modern tools the treasury has introduced to enhance procurement management.
“These updates are part of a larger strategy aimed at strengthening transparency, efficiency, and fostering innovation in handling public resources,” the treasury said in a statement.
Accountant-General Andreas Antoniades, who took on his role last year, has been a proponent of these reforms, particularly because public procurement in Cyprus has been hindered by operational, bureaucratic, procedural, and legal challenges. The treasury noted that these obstacles often slow down the ability of public sector services to address needs effectively and efficiently.
Further, the lack of transparency in these processes has, at times, contributed to dissatisfaction, underscoring the need for accessible, clear information.
