China Removes Visa Requirements for Cypriots, Christodoulides Announced in New York

On Friday, September 27, it was revealed that China has eliminated visa requirements for Cypriot citizens. This significant announcement was made by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi during a meeting with President Nikos Christodoulides on Thursday, which took place in New York amid the UN General Assembly.

According to government spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis, the two leaders discussed the robust bilateral relations between Cyprus and the People’s Republic of China, which have been continually strengthening. “In this context, the Chinese foreign minister confirmed the abolition of visa requirements for Cypriot nationals visiting China, reflecting the deepening ties between our nations,” Letymbiotis stated.

Furthermore, the leaders addressed a bilateral air transport agreement that has been finalized, aiming to significantly enhance connectivity between Cyprus and China.

The meeting also touched upon the Cyprus issue, with Letymbiotis noting that as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, China has historically supported Cyprus and remains aligned with its national interests.

President Christodoulides updated Foreign Minister Yi on recent developments related to the Cyprus situation, highlighting efforts by the Greek Cypriot side to renew negotiations and sharing insights from his latest meeting with the UN Secretary-General.
