Israel’s Ambassador to Cyprus, Oren Anolik, underscored the deepening energy collaboration between Israel, Cyprus, and Greece as pivotal for advancing regional security and sustainability. Speaking at the 12th Energy Symposium in Nicosia, Anolik emphasized that these partnerships are vital for shaping a connected and sustainable energy future in the Eastern Mediterranean.
Despite the challenges posed by the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict, Anolik highlighted the robustness of Israel’s energy infrastructure and the potential for expanding partnerships with Cyprus. Among the initiatives discussed was a prospective natural gas pipeline linking the two nations, which could enhance energy security and diversify export markets for both countries and Europe.
The Ambassador also commended the trilateral cooperation between Israel, Cyprus, and Greece, specifically referencing the 2021 Memorandum of Understanding on the Great Sea Interconnector project. This ambitious initiative seeks to integrate the electricity grids of the three countries, with efforts currently focused on finalizing its technical and financial framework.
Anolik further highlighted Israel’s advancements in renewable energy, particularly in solar power, energy storage, and smart grid technologies. He noted that these innovations could be shared with Cyprus to support its transition to greener energy solutions and address future energy demands.
Looking to the future, Anolik stressed the significance of ongoing collaboration to tackle pressing global issues such as climate change and the increasing demand for sustainable energy. He also suggested expanding cooperative efforts into other sectors, including water desalination and climate adaptation strategies, enhancing resilience across the region.
