The Supreme Constitutional Court is set to issue its verdict on the controversial wealth declaration law, commonly referred to as pothen esches, on Wednesday at 11 a.m., as announced in a post on X.

The pothen esches legislation requires public officials and key public figures to submit detailed online declarations of their financial assets. These disclosures must cover not only the assets of the individuals themselves but also those of their spouses, partners, and dependents.

An annex to the law outlines specific individuals required to comply, including the attorney-general, deputy attorney-general, director of the president’s press office, and presidents and vice-presidents of district government organizations.

The law has faced opposition, notably from President Nikos Christodoulides, who referred it to the court, arguing that it breaches the constitution, violates the principle of separation of powers, and does not align with European legal standards.

The court’s upcoming decision is expected to clarify the legal standing of the pothen esches law and its implications for governance and transparency in Cyprus.
