On Saturday, four US senators made a notable visit to the Andreas Papandreou airbase in Paphos, where they met with Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides. The visiting senators—Jerry Moran, Susan Collins, John Boozman, and John Cornyn—emphasized Cyprus’ crucial role as a “pillar of safety and stability,” while also highlighting the island’s position as a bridge for peace and cooperation in the region, according to a statement from the Cypriot government.

Photos from the visit depicted military personnel wearing uniforms bearing US Army and Marine badges, standing alongside members of the Cyprus military.

This visit is part of a broader regional tour by the US senators, aimed at reinforcing the already strong bilateral relations between Cyprus and the United States. Both countries share a commitment to further developing their strategically important partnership.

During the visit, US Ambassador to Cyprus, Julie Fisher, remarked that the trip served as a valuable moment to underscore the joint commitment between the US and Cyprus to regional stability and security, especially during these critical times. She stressed the importance of this growing partnership.

President Christodoulides used the opportunity to brief the senators on Cyprus’ current initiatives, particularly in relation to the ongoing humanitarian aid efforts for Gaza, as well as its support in facilitating the repatriation of foreign nationals fleeing conflict in the area. He also underscored the depth of cooperation between Cyprus and the US, especially following the formalization of their strategic dialogue.
