King Charles III has expressed his desire for the continued strong and cordial relationship between the United Kingdom and Cyprus. This sentiment was conveyed during a ceremony at Buckingham Palace on November 26, where Cyprus’ High Commissioner, Kyriacos Kouros, formally presented his credentials.

During the event, High Commissioner Kouros extended greetings from Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides and highlighted the longstanding friendship and cooperation that bind the two nations. In response, King Charles warmly welcomed Kouros and his wife, wishing him success in his new role.

The King’s words reflect his ongoing appreciation for Cyprus, as previously noted in his Independence Day message to President Christodoulides in October. In that message, King Charles commended Cyprus for its leadership in marine conservation and sustainable resource management, emphasizing the shared commitment of the two nations to addressing climate change and related global challenges. He also spoke of cherishing the strong bond between the UK and Cyprus.

Kyriacos Kouros, who has served as Cyprus’ High Commissioner in London since April, also holds the position of Permanent Representative to the International Maritime Organisation. His diplomatic career includes roles as the foreign ministry’s permanent secretary, head of Cyprus’ intelligence service, and ambassador to both Beirut and Amsterdam.
